Caught a leak with a cheap thermal gun

Had a mystery drip in the wall by the laundry room for weeks. Borrowed a $40 infrared thermometer from a buddy and scanned the drywall at 6am when the house was coldest, the wet spot showed up 4 degrees lower than everything else. Cut one small hole and patched it in an afternoon. Has anyone else used temperature swings to track down moisture issues?

My buddy Carl found a hidden pipe leak in his garage wall using the same trick, 3 degrees cooler at 5am. Saved him from tearing out six feet of drywall, so yeah, thermal guns are honestly underrated for this.
