I finally caved and got a smart thermostat for my adobe house

Had a 1930s adobe in the North Valley and swore the old dial was fine, but after last July's $280 electric bill I grabbed a used Nest from a friend for $60. It learned my schedule in like 4 days and this month I'm down to $190, has anyone else seen that kind of drop with older insulation?

Are you running it on a schedule that actually matches when you're home, or did you just let it learn on its own? I'm wondering if the drop is more about the Nest's motion sensing kicking in when you're not around, since adobe holds heat so weird. My buddy has a similar setup and his savings only showed up after he manually set the away temps, not the learning mode. Have you checked if the old thermostat was just running the furnace constantly at night? Because that's what mine was doing, and the Nest fixed that more than the smart features did.
