Our clay tile roof nearly slid off after a bad monsoon patch job

We bought a 1940s house in the Northeast Heights last summer and ignored a few cracked tiles near the ridge. This July we had that one crazy windstorm with sideways rain, and I heard this awful scraping sound from the attic. Climbed up there and saw water dripping through the decking where the tiles had shifted enough to expose the underlayment. A roofer quoted me $4,800 to re-bed and re-point the whole ridge line, which hurt, but we got it done before the next storm. Has anyone else dealt with loose clay tiles that look fine from the street?
