Question about roof replacement quotes in the Northeast Heights

My neighbor told me to get three bids minimum and not to trust the first one, which sounded like common sense. Turns out the first estimate was $14,200 and the third guy came in at $9,800 for the same shingles and work. Has anyone else seen that big a gap between contractors around here?
