Rain barrel install finally paying off after 4 months of doubt

I was super skeptical when my neighbor pushed me to put in a rain barrel off our downspout near the Northeast Heights. Honestly thought it was just another thing to clean out and forget. But after that big storm we got back in March, I used that collected water on my tomatoes and roses for a whole week without touching the hose. The water bill even dropped about $18 compared to last spring. Has anyone else seen actual savings or plant health differences from one of these things, or did I just get lucky with the weather?

Did you check what your water utility charges for stormwater runoff fees? In some parts of town they actually lower that charge if they can see you have a barrel set up, which can be a bigger monthly win than the water savings alone. Worth looking at your bill line by line, because that's where the real quiet money hides.
