Swapped my old swamp cooler for a mini-split last summer and wow what a difference

I used to fight with my swamp cooler every July, adding water twice a day and hoping it would keep up with the 95 degree heat here in the North Valley. Last year I finally paid a local guy $3,200 to install a Mitsubishi mini-split in my living room. Now I just set the thermostat to 74 and forget about it, plus my electric bill actually went down by about $30 a month compared to running the swamp cooler nonstop. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a big change in their comfort or power bills?

Did you have any trouble with the humidity from the swamp cooler? I used to swear by mine cause I grew up with one, but after trying a buddy's mini-split last summer I totally get it now. The dry air drove me crazy and this is way more comfortable.

Read somewhere that swamp coolers work way better in places like Arizona where the air is already dry. But if you're somewhere with any real humidity, they just make everything sticky and miserable. I remember a buddy of mine had one in his garage workshop and the tools were always rusting. Switched to a mini-split and the rust problem went away. Plus no more musty smell.
