Tried spray foam over fiberglass in my attic. Game changer.
My house in the North Valley was basically a sieve for AC. Summer bills hit $280 easy. I kept adding fiberglass batts but it never sealed the gaps right. Finally bit the bullet and had a crew do closed cell spray foam in the attic. Cost me $1,800 for a 1200 square foot house. Difference is night and day. My house stays cooler way longer and the HVAC barely kicks on now. Plus the air quality feels better since it seals out all that dust. Anyone else made the switch and seen a huge drop in their bills?

Wait $1,800 for 1200 square feet? That sounds crazy cheap actually. I got quoted almost triple that for my place and I'm only in a 1400 square foot ranch. @hannaht29 you're spot on about the dust thing too. Since I sealed up my attic hatch with some basic foam I noticed way less of that fine grit on my kitchen counters. But I still have fiberglass up there and the gaps are driving me nuts every time the wind kicks up. I might just have to brave the price tag and go all in like you did.

Been noticing this same thing with other stuff around the house lately. Seems like half the problems we deal with come down to air sealing, not just insulation. I did my attic access hatch with some foam weatherstripping and it made a way bigger difference than I expected. Once you really seal everything up tight the whole house feels more solid, quieter too. Glad you're seeing the savings, that's real money going back in your pocket every month. Have you noticed less dust on your surfaces since you did it?
