500th frame pull done and I still hate my laser gauge
Hit my 500th unibody pull last Friday at the shop in Akron. Everyone brags about their fancy laser measuring systems, but I've used the same old tram gauge for 14 years and it's never let me down. Laser seems to pick up ambient light weird and gives me false readings on silver paint. Anyone else stick with basic tools even when the boss pushes the new gear?

Laser picking up ambient light is such bs, that's why I keep my old gauge too.

Man, I hear you on that! My buddy bought one of those fancy laser setups and spent more time recalibrating it than actually pulling frames. It kept throwing false readings every time the sun hit the shop windows, and on silver cars it would just go nuts. I told him my old tram gauge might not be flashy, but it doesnt need batteries or a software update every Tuesday. The boss keeps hinting I should upgrade, but I just smile and say the laser can have my gauge when it can survive a drop on concrete and still work. Some tools are just honest, you know?
