Bondo job from 3 years ago on a Tacoma finally cracked in the Oregon rain

I saw a truck I fixed up back in 2021 come through the shop last week and the filler split right along the seam I thought I'd sanded smooth, what causes old repairs to fail after all that time like that?

Check if the metal underneath was actually rusting.

Damn dude that sucks. Moisture probably got trapped behind the filler and started pushing it off from the inside. Did you use a self-etching primer on the bare metal before you laid down the bondo? That's usually the main thing that prevents stuff like this if you're working with a truck that sees rain.

Wait, did you actually use self etching primer? Because I learned that exact same lesson the hard way on my old F150. Tbh I skipped the primer once thinking it wasn't a big deal and the bondo was peeling off within a few months. It's wild how much of a difference that one step makes.
