Old timer at the collision shop told me to stop using body filler on plastic bumpers back in 2018

He said it never bonds right and after trying his method with a plastic welder for a 2012 Honda Civic bumper last month I finally saw what he meant, has anyone else switched to welding over filler on plastics?

Funny you mention that, I was a diehard filler guy on plastics for years until a buddy talked me into trying a plastic welder on a cheap bumper. Now I'll never go back, that bond is just way too solid to ignore.

A buddy of mine had a similar experience actually. He was fixing up an old Jeep bumper that had a nasty crack, spent hours with filler and sanding, only to have it split again after a week. A mutual friend loaned him a plastic welder, and he said the whole repair took maybe twenty minutes. He was really kicking himself for not trying it sooner, especially after seeing how the bond held up even when he put some weight on it. @ryan_clark40 you're spot on about that solid bond, it's a night and day difference from what most people are used to.
