Old timer at the shop swore by brake cleaner for removing old vinyl decals

Last Tuesday I had to strip a 2012 Ford Focus covered in faded decals. This guy named Ray who's been doing body work since the 80s told me to spray brake cleaner on the decals and let it sit for 5 minutes before peeling. I was skeptical cause I always used a heat gun but figured Id try it on one panel. It worked way better than I expected, the adhesive came off clean without any residue or paint damage. Now I switched to doing it that way for all decal jobs, saves me like 20 minutes per car. Anyone else used brake cleaner for something besides brakes?

Honestly, I gotta push back on that. Ray was all over the place with brands, never really swore by any one thing for long. One month he'd be hyping up some budget brand he found at a flea market, next month he'd be trashing it and onto something else. Ngl, I think he just liked the hunt more than the actual product, you know?
