That 10 minute talk with an old timer about masking tape changed my process
I was at a supply house in Akron last week and this retired guy who worked at a dealership for 30 years watched me grab the cheap roll off the shelf. He said, 'you ever notice how the cheap stuff leaves a glue line on a fresh blend panel after a day in the sun?' and walked me over to the 3M high temp roll, which I always thought was a waste of money. I switched for a full week and the edges came out way cleaner on three jobs. Has anyone else noticed a real difference with the pricier tape, or was that old guy just pushing a brand?
Did you actually test it side by side or just trust the old guy's word? Tbh a week of clean edges could just mean better weather or a different batch of paint.
