The 1998 Ford Ranger that came back with a whole new color scheme

A customer brought in his old Ranger for a fender repair, and when he picked it up a week later, the whole passenger side was a slightly different shade of blue. Turns out his teenage son, trying to be helpful, 'touched up' the fresh paint with a rattle can he found in the garage, a leftover from a patio furniture project. Has anyone else had a well-meaning customer or family member 'finish' a job for you?

My cousin tried to 'fix' a scratch on my car door with nail polish once. Same color family, totally wrong finish. I had to gently explain why we couldn't just buff it out. Ended up doing a proper spot repair and clear coat blend. Taught him a quick lesson on paint matching, which he actually found pretty cool.

My buddy did that with shoe polish once, @allen.cole.

Ha, nice. That cousin was lucky it was just nail polish and not something that ate through the clear coat.
