Vent: Customer asked me to match a paint color from a cell phone photo
Guy came in yesterday with a 2012 Honda Accord. Fender damage. He pulls up a picture on his phone of the car from 50 feet away in a parking lot at night and says match it to this. I explained why that doesn't work three times. He got mad and left. How do you deal with people who think phone cameras are the same as a spectrophotometer?

Man that is infuriating. I had a guy do the same thing with a dented bumper on a silver Toyota. I finally just pulled up a photo of a banana next to his phone pic and asked if he thought the colors matched. He got quiet real quick. What worked for me was showing them the actual paint code from their door jamb sticker on my tablet so they could see it was a totally different shade than the photo. Then I offered to spray a test card right there and match it by eye under the shop lights. Most people back down once they see you're trying to help, not just brush them off. Some still walk though and that's fine, their car their problem.
