I think Myron Mixon's method for ribs is overrated

Everyone talks about his boil first approach like it's the only way to get fall off the bone ribs. I tried it exactly like he does at his bbq joints during a trip to Georgia last spring. The meat came out tasting more like pot roast than barbecue and all the bark I spent hours building just washed away. I've been competing in backyard contests for about 4 years now and I get better results just doing a low and slow smoke at 225 for 5 hours with a good rub and spritz. The texture is way better and you actually taste smoke not just seasoning water. Has anyone else found that the famous guys on TV sometimes push methods that don't translate to home pits well?

People get way too worked up about how someone else cooks their ribs. If it works for you it works, who cares if a TV guy does it different.

Yeah, people act like they own the grill.
