Burned my cheap chili so bad the pan went in the trash

Wednesday night I got distracted by a call from my sister and let a pot of pintos scorch beyond saving, that $14 batch of chili for the week turned into a smoke alarm and a ruined saucepan. I ended up eating eggs for dinner and started over with a pressure cooker that afternoon, no soaking needed. Anyone else find those little short cuts only work when you actually stay in the kitchen?
