Curious why so many budget meal plans include canned tomatoes

I keep seeing canned tomatoes in every cheap recipe idea. Are they that versatile or just really affordable?

They’re like 80 cents, right? How could you not use them?

lol at that price I'm more worried about what they're leaving out to save money. Feels like the kind of bargain that scams you later.

Right, like Derek said, they cut corners somewhere.
