Had a wake up call at the grocery store checkout line yesterday

I was standing in line at the Kroger on Broadway last night, and the lady in front of me had a cart full of those pre-made salad kits and frozen meal boxes. Her total came to $87 for maybe four dinners worth of food. Meanwhile, I had a bag of dried beans, a whole chicken, some rice, and fresh veggies for $23 and I knew that would feed my family for almost a week. It really got me thinking about how much money people throw away on convenience. I used to buy those kits too, but after one night of cooking from scratch and seeing how easy it really is, I never went back. My grandma would probably laugh at me for acting like this is some big discovery, but I feel like stores hide the cheap filling stuff on the bottom shelves for a reason. Has anyone else noticed how much more you pay just for someone else to chop your vegetables?

Totally feel you on that... it's crazy how much extra they charge just for cutting a few veggies.
