Had to decide between bulk beans or canned for chili this week
I was staring at a 5lb bag of dried kidney beans for $4.50 versus cans at 88 cents each at Kroger. I went with the dried ones since I had a slow cooker and some time on my day off. After soaking overnight and cooking for a few hours I got enough chili to freeze 4 portions. Anyone else find the extra effort worth it for the savings?

Does it ever feel like we are trading our time for money in more ways than we realize... I mean yeah you saved a few bucks but you also spent a whole day watching beans simmer. There is something nice about just opening a can though when you are tired after work. I think the older I get the more I notice how many small choices add up to big differences in how we spend our days.

Yeah, isn't that the truth... something about being young makes you think you have endless time to save a few dollars. I did the bean thing once too, soaked them overnight and everything. By hour three of watching that pot I was wondering why I didn't just buy the can for a dollar fifty. Now I just pay the extra and keep my evening free for zoning out on the couch.
