My neighbor's garden gave me a cheap dinner idea

I was walking past Mrs. Henderson's place yesterday and saw her pulling up a huge zucchini... she said it grew from just one seed packet she got for a dollar. It made me realize how much a small garden could cut grocery costs. I'm thinking of planting a couple of tomato plants in pots on my balcony this spring. Has anyone else tried growing just one or two veggies to save on meals?

Wow, zucchini seeds are cheap but you'll need a lot of space for that plant...

Honestly @skyler_anderson65, how much space are we talking? Like a whole garden bed or just a big pot?

The_max, you're asking the real questions here. A single zucchini plant can take over a whole 4x4 bed if you let it, no joke. I planted two in a raised bed last year and by August it looked like a jungle crime scene - the leaves were bigger than my head. Stick to a big pot unless you want to be giving zucchini to strangers at the grocery store. That stuff grows faster than a rumor at a family reunion.
