Switched to bulk dried beans instead of canned last month - night and day on my grocery bill

I picked up a 5 pound bag of pinto beans at the local market for $3.50. After soaking and cooking them myself, I got the same amount as about 8 cans that would have cost me $12 total. The flavor is way better too, not all mushy and salty like the canned stuff. First batch took me 2 hours on a Sunday, but now I just do it while watching football. Anybody else made the switch and found other beans that cook up easy?

Pressure cookers are a game changer for dried beans. An hour in the Instant Pot and you've got beans ready to go with no soaking needed. Lentils and split peas cook up fast too, like 20 minutes or so.

Oh man, you're speaking my language. I read somewhere that pressure cooking beans actually makes them more digestible too, something about breaking down those complex sugars that give people trouble. So it's not just faster, it's kinder on your stomach. I've been meaning to try that with chickpeas for hummus, since canned ones always taste a bit off to me. Split pea soup in 20 minutes sounds almost too good to be true, but I guess that's the whole point of these things.
