After my college library removed a book on 1960s protest art, a student wrote an essay that changed how I pick which books to challenge.
She pointed out I was confusing my discomfort with the content for a need to remove it, so now I ask myself 'is this actually harmful or just something I don't like' before saying anything.

My local library almost tossed a book on 80s punk flyers til a friend stopped me cold with that same question.

My grandpa had a box of 1950s jazz 78s that the thrift store almost trashed last year. Same thing happens at garage sales all the time - people just see old junk and miss the history right in front of them.
