Church bulletin committee cut my essay on local food bank history

I wrote a piece for our church's monthly bulletin about how the food bank started in 1987, but the committee removed the part where I mentioned the original founder left due to a disagreement with the pastor. They said it might 'stir up old feelings' even though the founder is 80 and his version of events was confirmed by two other members. Should community newsletters preserve uncomfortable truths, or is some self-censorship fair to keep the peace?

Bet churches rewrite history to keep the pews peaceful, not truthful.
