Got pulled from a school board meeting after quoting the First Amendment

I was at a district meeting in Austin last month reading a student's letter about banned books when they cut my mic. Afterward a board member told me I should stick to the 'approved talking points' next time. Has anyone else run into unofficial speech rules at these public meetings?

Ha! At least you got a mic first. I once got shushed for breathing too loud.

Actually saw a study about this once that said some people just have naturally louder breathing patterns. Your mileage may vary but apparently it's linked to how your nasal passages are shaped. I've noticed it myself in quiet rooms - some folks just can't help it. Maybe you could try one of those little desk fans to create some background noise? Heard that helps mask the little sounds without anyone having to say anything. Not that you should have to change anything though - shushing someone for breathing is just weird.
