Got yelled at for posting a news article in a local Facebook group in Austin...

I shared a link from the Austin Chronicle about city council zoning changes and within 15 minutes an admin deleted it. No warning, no message, just gone. So I reposted it as a screenshot with the source text and they banned me for 30 days saying I was "circumventing moderation." The article wasn't even political, just info about a park being sold to developers. Has anyone else had admins kill straight up factual posts without even talking to you first?

Been through this exact thing on a buy nothing group in Dallas, learned the hard way that most local FB groups have secret rules about "linking out" that they never put in the pinned posts. Take screenshots of the article with the source visible and crop the URL out, that way you're sharing info without giving them a reason to flag it as external content. Next time just message the admin first with a quick heads up about what you're posting, most of them chill out when you act like you're asking permission instead of just doing it.

Just cropped the URL out of a screenshot and it worked perfectly for me too.

I used to think screenshots were kind of a workaround and not worth the hassle, but this honestly changed my mind. I saw @ericfox say it worked perfectly and now I'm thinking I've been overcomplicating things. The part about messaging the admin first is smart too, I usually just post and hope for the best which never ends well. Definitely gonna try the screenshot trick next time I need to share something in a local group.
