Hit 10,000 signatures on my petition and the silence from local news is deafening
Ten thousand names sounds like a lot until you realize our city council got 12,000 complaints about a dog park last year and covered that on the front page, so what does it actually take to get a story picked up, has anyone else seen a big number get ignored like that?

...and honestly it's weird how these things work, my friend Sarah had a similar thing happen with her neighborhood recycling program. She gathered like 800 signatures to get a second pickup day added, and the local paper basically ignored her too. But then her neighbor's cat got stuck in a tree and the same paper sent a photographer out for that, it was ridiculous. The only time she finally got any attention was when she emailed the news director directly with a really catchy subject line about "the trash crisis nobody is talking about," and they did a small piece on their website. I mean, it took her months of following up and basically making a nuisance of herself, and even then it was barely a blurb. It really does feel like they just pick whatever's easiest to cover, not what actually matters to people.
