I finally chose to keep writing under my real name after my blog got blocked
About six months ago, my personal blog got blocked in my country for talking about a local protest I saw. I had to pick between shutting it down for good or starting a whole new anonymous one on some hard to find platform. I chose to keep writing under my own name and just moved the site to a server in Germany. It was scary, and I lost about 80% of my old readers who couldn't find me or were too worried to follow. But the people who did find me again said it mattered that I didn't hide. My hosting costs went up by $15 a month, which hurts. Has anyone else kept using their real name after being censored and found it was worth the trouble?

Hosting costs aren't the real price.

it mattered that I didn't hide" sounds noble but getting blocked again could cost way more than $15 a month.

So you're paying $15 a month for the luxury of having your government know exactly where to send the complaint forms?
