I finally paid for a private server to host my old blog archive
It cost about $300 for the year, but after my old free host in Prague deleted my political cartoons without notice, I had to get them somewhere safe. Now I control the backups, and the cartoons are back up, even the ones that got me in trouble before. Has anyone else found a good way to keep old writing from just disappearing online?

Wait, they just deleted your cartoons with no warning? That's insane. I can't believe a host would do that, especially over political stuff. Good on you for getting your own space, even if it costs. I've been thinking about doing the same for my old poetry blog, but that price tag makes me pause. What made you pick that specific server?

HOLD UP, they just deleted your WHOLE archive of cartoons with no warning? That's not just bad hosting that's literally destroying someone's work like it's nothing. I get that you had to find somewhere else to put it, that kind of betrayal would make me want to take my stuff and run too. As for picking that specific server, for me it was all about finding a host that actually said they wouldn't just nuke content over opinions, even if it was a little more expensive.

Yeah, that's the move right there... total control. I learned the hard way too, lost a whole forum archive once. Now I keep local backups on an external drive, plus a cheap cloud storage account as a second copy. It's a pain to set up, but you sleep better.
