My neighborhood app deleted a post about a broken streetlight for 'off topic' content

I reported a streetlight that had been out for three weeks on our community app, because it's a safety issue. The post was removed within an hour, with a note saying it wasn't relevant to the group's purpose. I checked the rules, and they say posts must be about community events or local news. I had to call the public works department directly to get it fixed. Has anyone else had a simple public service post removed like this?

You mentioned the rules say posts must be about community events or local news. How is a broken streetlight, which is a public safety hazard, not considered local news? What exactly do they think qualifies, only bake sales and lost pet flyers?

Wow, I just emailed my city council member directly and it worked.

Hugo236 I feel you on this. Used to think emailing the city council was a total waste of time, like yelling into a void. But I tried it last month about a pothole that was wrecking tires on my street and someone actually got back to me in three days. They patched it two weeks later. Changed my whole view on how fast things can move if you just bug the right person. Still seems weird that a simple email works better than all the other options they give us.
