Pro tip: I got around a paywall block in Hanoi by pasting the URL into a text-only reader site
I was sitting in a cafe on Ta Hien street in Hanoi trying to pull up a news story about a protest that got blocked by the local ISP, and every workaround I knew failed. The site kept showing a 'content unavailable in your region' message, so I pasted the article link into a plain text reader service and the whole thing loaded fine. I had to use a free tool called 12ft.io which strips the code that geo-blocks you, and it worked on the first try. A friend said he uses a similar trick with a different site for blocked YouTube videos. Has anyone found a text reader that works on more than just news sites?
