Shoutout to the librarian in Tulsa who handed me a banned book when I was 15 and scared to take it
I thought she was setting me up to get in trouble, but she just slid it across the desk and said nobody gets to decide what I read. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a stranger backed your right to read?
So a librarian gave a teen a book and nobody called the cops, that is just her doing her job. Honestly the whole "banned book" thing gets blown way out of proportion. Most of those books are still sitting on shelves or one click away on a phone, so it is not like anyone is really stopping you. If a kid wants to read something, they will find it at a library, a store, or online in about two minutes. Feels less like some brave stand and more like normal library stuff people are turning into a big deal.
