Threw $120 at a VPN that got blocked in 3 days

I signed up for a big name VPN last month thinking I could dodge my country's site blocks, but the government cracked down on all VPN traffic by the end of that week. Customer support just gave me a canned script about refunds being denied. I should've tested that free trial version first instead of paying upfront. Has anyone else lost cash to a service that got shut down right after you bought it?
