TIL that $40 VPN from a no-name brand logged everything I did online
I was trying to access a news site from work that they blocked, so I bought this cheap VPN off a reddit ad for $40. A few months later I found out they logged every website I visited and even my real IP address... my whole browsing history was sitting on their server in plain text. I only realized when a buddy showed me their privacy policy buried in tiny font. Has anyone else gotten burned by a cheap VPN service?

Bit dramatic. Everyone logs stuff. Just don't browse weird stuff.

Actually ISPs throttle VPN traffic sometimes, not just log it.

Read that study from the UK where they found ISPs throttled VPN traffic by up to 80% during peak hours. Supposedly it's to 'manage network congestion' but funny how it always hits the encrypted stuff first. Canadian ISPs got caught doing the same thing a few years back, they were deliberately slowing down any traffic that looked like a VPN tunnel. Makes you wonder how much of that 'throttling' is just another way to collect data on what you're doing.
