Sitting in on a town hall about dive hours left me with more questions than answers
I was just at this meeting last week, you know, the one about the new rules for commercial diving in the bay. They want to limit our work to daylight hours only, saying the boats and gear are too loud at night. On one hand, I get it. My neighbor mentioned her kids can't sleep with the hum of compressors. But on the other hand, we rely on those night tides for certain jobs, like when we're fixing pier pilings. Last month, we had to abort a job because the light was fading, and waiting meant losing the contract. Some guys say we should push back, argue for exceptions. Others think we should just adapt, use quieter equipment maybe. But that costs money, and not all shops can afford it. What do you all think? Is there a middle ground here?
