Almost lost a thumb to a popped zip tie on a lift bag off the Port of Houston

I was running a 20-foot bag on a 3-ton lift of steel grating and that cheap plastic tie snapped under pressure, sending the shackle flying past my face, so has anyone else switched to steel bands for their bag attachments?

Damn, that's terrifying. Glad you still got your thumb.

Man, that "cheap plastic tie snapped under pressure" part really hits home. I've noticed this same exact pattern everywhere these days. Everything from zippers on jackets to the straps on lawn chairs just seem to be made with the cheapest possible materials that barely hold up for one season. It's like manufacturers save two cents on a part and we end up risking our thumbs or spending Saturday afternoon fixing something that should have lasted years. I have a few buddies who run dive charters and they all switched to steel bands after seeing similar close calls out on the water.
