Can we talk about surface supply vs scuba for shallow pier work?

Did a 20 ft pier inspection in Seattle last month on scuba and spent half the dive fighting the current to stay put, then watched the other crew knock out the same job on surface supply with way less fuss. Anyone else find surface supply wins even on the shallow stuff, or do you still run tanks when the depth is easy?
