Got to dive the old bridge pilings near Port Townsend today
I was working a salvage job up on the Olympic Peninsula last week and between shifts I checked out some old timber pilings from a 1920s railroad trestle. The growth on those things was insane - clusters of mussels the size of my forearm and a whole school of rockfish just hanging out. Anybody else find random dive spots near job sites that turned out cooler than the actual work?

Man that sounds awesome! I had a similar thing happen years ago when I was helping demo an old waterfront cannery in Alaska. Found this spot under a collapsed dock where a whole colony of giant Pacific octopus had moved in. Ended up spending more time down there watching those things than I did on the actual job. Rockfish are a good sign too, means the structure's been left alone long enough to build a real ecosystem around it.

Nah, rockfish move in fast though, doesn't mean it's old growth.
