I was using a 5/16ths wrench for every bolt on the rig until a new guy in Port Arthur asked why my fittings were so chewed up.

He pointed out the manufacturer stamp on a flange bolt, showing it was metric, and I'd been forcing the wrong tool for two years straight, so what's the most common tool mistake you've seen on a dive job?

Forgetting to check if it's left hand thread. Seen a guy crank a fitting the wrong way for an hour.

Man, I used to think that was just an old-timer's tale.

What finally made him stop and check? I've seen guys get so locked in on forcing something they break it before the thought even crosses their mind. Was it a stripped thread or just pure exhaustion that made him step back?
