Just saw some wild stuff on a job at the Port of Tacoma last week...

We were doing a hull clean on a big container ship, and I saw a diver using a regular old paint scraper on the growth instead of a proper hull cleaning tool. It was taking him forever and leaving marks. I get that gear is expensive, but that's just asking for a complaint from the ship owner. Has anyone else run into guys using the wrong tools to save a few bucks?

Yeah, a paint scraper? That's brutal. Did you see what kind of growth it was? Heavy barnacles would just wreck that edge and the hull coating.

Used to think that was fine, but seeing the damage changed my mind.

Remember scraping my own hull, phoenix_lopez, and the awful sound it made.
