My old dive partner told me to always pack a spare mask strap in my wet bag
I thought it was overkill until my strap snapped during a 90 foot inspection dive in Lake Michigan last fall. I was stuck on the bottom with zero visibility for 20 minutes while my tender found a spare on the boat. That delay cost the client a full day's pay for the whole crew. Now I keep two spares in my kit, no questions asked. What's one piece of simple gear advice that saved your dive?

Man, that story hits home. I started packing a spare mask strap after a similar shallow water scare, but you just convinced me to double it up. It's crazy how such a cheap, tiny piece of gear can completely wreck a complex, expensive operation. Your point about the whole crew losing a day's pay really shows the ripple effect. I'm adding another strap to my bag today, no joke.

Learned that lesson the hard way too, but with a fin strap. Felt like a real genius trying to swim with one floppy fin. What's your most embarrassing gear fail?
