Old timer at Quonset Point changed my mind about dry suits

I used to think dry suits were a waste of cash for inshore work. Then this grizzled guy named Pete pulled me aside during a surface interval in Narragansett Bay last August. He pointed at my cold, chapped hands and said "That'll cost you a job when you can't feel your tools." So I dropped $800 on a good used one that week. Anyone else have an old hand talk you into better gear?

Wait, you snagged a DRY suit for only 800 bucks? That's practically stealing it.

Wait, you think 800 bucks for a dry suit is "practically stealing" it? I mean, I get that used gear can be a deal, but that's still a pretty penny. Unless it's one of those old-school neoprene suits that's about to crack at the seams, you know? I've seen folks get brand new ones for around 1200 if they hunt around, so 800 isn't stealing, it's just a good find. Still, better than paying full retail, I'll give you that.
