Talked to a salvage diver in Mobile about his comms setup.
He said he runs two separate comms units, not just a backup. One primary, one on a different frequency. His exact words were 'if your only backup is the same system, it's not a backup.' Had a comms failure last month on a bridge inspection in 80 feet. That second unit idea would've saved us two hours of surface time. Anyone else run dual independent systems for deep work?

That "different frequency" part is key, stops a single problem from taking out both units.

Reminds me of setting up my old garage door openers. Had two remotes on the same code and a motor glitch locked the whole system. Took a solid hour of resetting everything before I could get my car out. Now I make sure any paired gear like that runs on totally separate channels, learned that the hard way. Redundancy only works if the backup isn't tied to the same failure point.
