That one comment from a supervisor about my buoyancy control really stuck with me
He told me I was fighting the water instead of working with it, so I started doing fin kicks slower and more deliberate. Has anyone else had a small piece of feedback that totally changed their diving game?

Oh I was guilty of the exact same thing for way too long. I used to think being a strong diver meant kicking hard and moving fast through the water. A divemaster finally pulled me aside after a night dive and said I was stirring up the bottom so bad you could barely see ten feet behind me. He told me to slow my kicks down to almost half the speed and focus on using my hips instead of my knees. That one piece of advice completely changed how I hover and glide through the water. Now I can cruise right over a sandy bottom without kicking up a single grain and it feels almost effortless compared to how I used to swim.

That's hilarious - the divemaster basically told you to stop trying to turn the ocean into a snow globe! I've definitely been the guy who thought hard kicks equaled pro status too. Guess we all need someone to gently remind us we're just stirring up mud like angry hippos.
