Tried a new dive knife sheath on a job in Mobile and it just... vanished
It was a magnetic one that clipped to my leg, but after an hour of working on the pilings, it was just gone without a trace. Anyone have a sheath that actually stays put in heavy current?

Wait, a magnetic sheath on a job like that? That's wild. Those currents must have been insane to just rip it clean off.

Yeah, xenarobinson, we had to switch to a braided steel wrap after a similar failure. That magnetic stuff just can't handle the sudden spikes, right?

That Mobile current is no joke, I've seen it strip gear off guys twice as fast as you'd expect. I stopped trusting magnetic sheaths after my buddy lost a hundred dollar knife off a wreck near Morgan City. The problem is those magnets aren't strong enough for the sudden yanks you get when working in structure. We switched to a basic velcro strap sheath with a secondary bungee loop around the calf, and it's held solid through three seasons of pilings and oyster bars. My advice is ditch the magnets and go old school with something that physically cinches down.
