Update: My dive partner told me to use a different grease on my drysuit zipper
He said the stuff I was using would gum up in cold water, and sure enough, my zipper got stuck on a job in Seattle last month. I switched to the silicone paste he suggested and it's been smooth for three dives now. What's your go-to trick for keeping gear from freezing up?

Swear by the hot water trick. I keep a thermos of warm, not boiling, water in my kit. If a buckle or zipper starts to stiffen up, a quick splash frees it right up without damaging the seals. It saved my regulator hose from locking solid on a Great Lakes dive. That little bit of heat makes all the difference when the water is just above freezing.

Just don't forget to test your thermos seal before you trust it in your bag.

Used to think testing seals was overkill but you're making a lot of sense... that hot water trick sounds way better than dealing with a leaky bag on a cold morning dive.
