Vent: That one diver who swore by the Neptune NDX-1 over everything else
I was chatting with an old timer last week down at the shop in Galveston. He spent 20 minutes telling me how the Neptune NDX-1 is the only reg worth buying, and that anything else is basically junk. I've always run a Poseidon setup and never had issues, but he was so sure of himself it made me second guess. Then I realized he's been diving the same NDX-1 since 2014 without ever servicing it himself (just sending it in once a year). Meanwhile, I've had to swap hoses on my Poseidon twice in that same timeframe. Made me wonder if loyalty to a brand is just stubbornness or actual experience. Anyone else have a piece of gear they swear by even though the data says otherwise?

Oh man, @the_wesley nailed it with that pickup truck comparison! Here's the thing that nobody's bringing up though - those old timers developed their habits when gear was way less standardized than it is now. Back in 2014, the NDX-1 had some legit advantages over budget stuff, but that gap has closed big time. The real issue is comfort and muscle memory, not objective performance. Your Poseidon hoses wearing out might actually be a good sign - it means you're using the gear and noticing things, while his is just going through the motions without real scrutiny. Sometimes the loudest opinions come from people who stopped paying attention to how gear actually works.

It's the same mentality as people who insist their old pickup truck is better than any new car, just because it still starts.
