80s Cat engine rebuild I did last month threw a rod through the block
Had a 3406B I rebuilt back in August throw a rod through the block last month on a 95 Peterbilt. Tore it down and found I had torqued the rod bolts to 85 ft-lbs instead of 110, just spaced it after all these years wondering if that happened to anyone else.

Nah, that's on you for not double checking the torque specs.

Bro my friend Greg did the EXACT same thing on his LS swap. Torqued the head bolts by feel because he "knew what 80 ft-lbs felt like." Engine ran fine for like 10 miles then started smoking BAD out the exhaust. Pulled the heads and found three bolts were barely finger tight and two were stripped out. Cost him a whole new gasket set and a weekend of his life. Always check the specs man, Greg learned the HARD way.
