DAE think the 2 second bump start trick is garbage compared to just checking the fuel shutoff solenoid?
I keep seeing guys on here swear by bump starting a no-start 5.9 to 'wake up the injection pump,' but I wasted 45 minutes in a gravel lot in Waco trying that on a customer's truck and it did nothing. Pulled the solenoid connector instead, found 9.4 volts where I should've had 12, cleaned the ground on the block, and it fired right up. Anyone else notice the bump start thing only works when the real problem is something you accidentally jostled loose anyway?
That trick is just luck dressed up as a repair. Bump starting only "works" when the real issue is a loose connection or a ground that's hanging on by a thread, and the shaking happens to wake it back up. You did the right thing chasing voltage instead of guessing. 9.4 volts at the solenoid tells you everything you need to know, and a dirty block ground is about as common as it gets on these trucks. Guys keep passing around that bump start thing because it worked for them one time, but that ain't a fix.
