Hot take: I used to think oil analysis was a waste of money but 3 years of data proved me wrong

I started pulling samples on our fleet of 12 Peterbilts back in 2021 just to shut up a guy at the shop. First few reports looked like junk science to me, but after catching a failing injector in truck #7 about 400 hours before any symptoms showed up, I changed my mind fast. Now I do it on every oil change and it's saved us around $8,000 in engine work just this year alone. Has anyone else here had a big save from catching something early with an oil sample?

Ha! I was the same way honestly. I told my buddy who swore by oil analysis that he was basically reading tea leaves and doing voodoo magic on my engines. Then I got a sample back on my old F-250 that showed coolant was leaking in and I ignored it because I thought it was a fluke. Two months later I was pulling the head off and wishing I had listened to the "junk science" instead of my stubborn pride. So yeah, I feel like an idiot but at least I learned the lesson before it cost me a full rebuild.

Whoa @claire64, that coolant find on the F-250 must have been terrifying.
