Just realized hand tools have changed more than I thought

I was working on an old 5.9 Cummins yesterday and had to pull the injectors. My young helper handed me a new puller with a fancy slide hammer. I told him to go get my old Snap-On injector puller from the 90s. That old thing worked smooth as butter while his new one kept slipping off the threads. Has anyone else noticed older tools just fit better on these older engines?

Is it just me or do they over-engineer the hell out of new tools while the old ones just got the job done? My 80s Mac Tools ratchet still feels better than anything I've bought in the last decade.

Is it just me, or do you think the over-engineering is actually covering up for cheaper materials these days? @cameron684, your old Mac ratchet probably had a simpler mechanism with fewer parts to break. The new ones have all these quick-release buttons and multiple locking positions, but the metal feels softer and the tolerances are looser. I have a 90s Snap-on that still clicks perfectly, while my newer stuff already has a little wobble in the head. It's like they add features just so you have to buy a rebuild kit sooner.
